INTERDISCIPLINARY PROJECTS

Interdisciplinary projects requires more than single discipline research:

  • resources of time;

  • effort;

  • imagination;

  • money.

Interdisciplinary projects involve higher than single discipline research:

  • risks of failure;

  • substantial rewards;

  • advancing the knowledge base;

  • helping to solve complex societal problems.

ARKI GROUP observes interdisciplinary projects as occurring where the contributions of the various disciplines are integrated to provide holistic or systemic outcomes.

Interdisciplinary projects do not occur automatically by bringing together several disciplines in one project. More effort is needed to promote the formation of a cohesive project team involving researchers from different disciplines, to combine expertise from several knowledge domains and to overcome communication problems among researchers from different disciplines.
