PROJECT DEVELOPMENT CYCLE

The life cycle of a project can be segmented into a logical series of stages or phases, each representative of the types of tasks or activities conducted during some period in the life of the project.

The normative systems development cycle (four-phase) sequence:

1. Conception:

1.1 initiation stage;

1.2 feasibility stage;

1.3 proposal preparation.

2. Definition:

2.1 project definition;

2.2 system definition;

2.3 user and system requirements.

3. Execution:

3.1 design stage;

3.2 production/build stage;

3.3 fabrication;

3.4 testing;

3.5 implementation stage;

3.6 training;

3.7 acceptance tests;

3.8 installation;

3.9 termination.

4. Operation phase:

4.1 system maintenance and evaluation;

4.2 improvement;

4.3 termination.

The phases overlap and interact, yet are clearly differentiable.
